ImGlobal Payments will become the first ISO/MSP to offer their merchants an online Maestro acceptance for customers both within and outside the UK. This will open up a whole new consumer market as Maestro is the most popular debit card in the UK and is quickly becoming so throughout Europe.

Maestro originates from the Switch and Solo payment systems, which were both very popular in the UK. In 2004 MasterCard took over these systems and then merged and transformed them into the Maestro system. Since then, service cards issued by banks throughout Europe - previously issued as ec-cards - now carry the Maestro Logo. There are currently over 30 million cards alone in the UK. The Maestro logo is often combined with the Solo logo and, for a transitional period, with the Switch logo.

Maestro cards issued in the UK can be used for internet transactions immediately. Authentication consists of using the cardholder's name, the card number and PIN, which is secured using MasterCard SecureCode. This makes Maestro one of the most secure online payment methods for merchants.

Existing merchants will need to sign an acceptance contract. New merchants will automatically be able to accept Maestro alongside the current suite of Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards.
